Discovery Labs

Discovery labs last about 60 minutes and are appropriate for 2nd grade and older. Dates and times are subject to availability. Maximum class size is 25 students and minimum is 7 students. The cost is $5 per student. 

Physical Science

Build a car powered by a balloon, design your own rollercoaster and build the tallest newspaper tower.

Rocket Science
Investigate Newton’s laws of motion and find out how scientists develop ideas by building, testing, and modifying their designs. Launch paper rockets.

Volts and Jolts
  (Design Challenge)
Light up the world and make some noise while learning about switches and circuits.

Molecule Mania 
Slippery and slimy goo awaits your class as they explore the properties of polymers. Discover the science behind bouncy balls and bullet-proof vests.

Life Science
Lewis
and Clark
Meet resident animals and learn about the journals Lewis and Clark kept on their findings. Create a track cast replica to take home.

Animals Abound
Classify animals by color, size, shape, and body features. Take a closer look at where animals live and why they live there. Meet our resident reptiles.


Earth Science
Rock Hounds
Explore the many ways rocks are formed. Create your own rock collection after identifying rocks based on their properties.

Solar System
Demonstrate distances and sizes of our solar system. Learn about the rotation and revolution of the planets.


Early Childhood Discovery Labs

Labs will last about 45 minutes and are appropriate for preschoolers through 2nd grade. Dates and times are subject to availability. Maximum class size is 25 students and minimum is 7 students. The cost is $5 per student.

Dinosaur Dig
Students learn about dinosaurs and what it take to be a palentologist.

Incredible Insects
Students learn about insect and bug anatomy and adaptations and their habitats.

Healthy Habits
Students will practice healthy habits through play, story, and actions.

Water Wonders
Students will conduct experiments dealing with the properties of water.


Art Smart Studios

Studios will last about 60 minutes and are typically appropriate for all ages. Students will visit the galleries as appropriate and available as part of their studio time. Dates and times are subject to availability. Maximum class size is 25 students and minimum is 7 students.The cost is $5 per student. 

Plaster and Painted Mask
Using plastic forms and plaster strips, students construct masks and then paint and adorn their creation. Influences will be drawn from Egypt and Africa.

Watercolor Wonders
Students learn watercolor techniques like wet-on-wet, salting, masking and dry brush. They will paint a landscape scene to be mounted on mat board.
 
Drawing
Students learn the basics of drawing and its historical role in communication. You can specialize the class by choosing a focus such as ancient Egypt or Native Americans. Students create and take home a block print or sketch book portfolio.

Clay and Sculpture
Students explore clay techniques as they create and paint a pinch or coil pot or small sculpture. Air dry clay can be used so art can be taken home the same day. Otherwise allow 2 weeks for firing before pick-up.
 
Mixed Media Masterpiece
With oil and chalk pastels, paints, collage and more students learn about color, line and shape. The art of Picasso inspires these colorful masterpieces that will be ready to frame.
 
Canvas Painting
Viewing original paintings in the galleries will inspire your class to create their own. They’ll paint on real canvas (9X12) while discovering acrylic painting techniques.
